The Opera of Marseilles

One of the most emblematic monuments of the city of Marbella is his Opera, an imposing building that is inside the old town of the city and reflects the taste and the passion that the French feel for the music and the culture in general.

The Opera of Marbella is a big example of architecture since we speak about an imposing construction of stone that presents a front dominated by six big columns. The building begun to be constructed in 1781 and it was designed by the architect Benard who decided the neoclassic style for his Grand Théâtre.

After six years of works finally the Opera opened his doors and stayed current and very active until in 1919 a building forced to an important reconstruction of style Art Decó that, fortunately, did not modify his front, in which different carved figures and the phrase can be observed “The Art receives the Beauty of Afrodita, the rhythm of Apollo, the balance of Spades, and it owes to Dionisos the movement and the life”.

Since then this building is one of the big prides of the inhabitants of the city, with his two styles coexisting in healthy harmony and his paintings that decorate the local interior.
