Vila Nova de Gaia, cradle of the Oporto

The port. Did they ever wonder because of the name of this wine? If it is like that, that better that to visit his origin place to discover it.

Vila Nova de Gaia, locality of Portugal located opposite to the city of Oporto, from which the Duero separates it, is today a set of multiple wine vaults specializing in the production of the famous liquor, some dulzón and rather loudly (up to 25 °G.L of alcohol). Most of them realize visits guided to the tourists, which consist of a little of history of the establishment, trip of the same one, to culminate with some tasting in nice spaces created for such an end. In many of them it is not necessary to realize reservation, since they divide exits every day, and the prices are about 3 euros, nevertheless, several are free to them.

To come to Vila Nova of Gaia it is possible to cross the bridge Luís I that joins it with Oporto, or to realize the typical walk in rabelos, small crafts formerly used for the transport of casks. In the same ones the landscaped walk of the coast is furrowed up to coming to Vila Nova, where also it will be possible to visit the Museum of the Wine, and this way to know the whole history of the “Portuguese broth”, going back until the XVIth century.
